Canadian International Robinson Re-signs

Louis Robinson has once again committed another year to London Skolars for the 2015 season. This will be Louis’s 3rd season at the club which has seen him continually improve into a player who has solidified his spot in the starting 17.

Louis started out his playing days as a junior at Hemel Stags and was spotted by Harlequins RLFC where he progressed through to U20s. Many Skolars players over the years have followed the similar pathway such as current Skolars players, captain Dave Williams, James Anthony, Anthony Cox & Sam Druce. Showing that the link between London Broncos & London Skolars is still strong and consistently producing good quality League 1 players.

Having shown his impact in Championship 1 Louis was also selected to play for Canada in a 3 game series vs. the USA (Colonial Cup) where Canada were narrowly defeated in the last game to make it 2-1.  Then selected to play in the Caribbean Cup vs. Jamaica helping them towards victory, and along the way grabbing a few tries to make his Canada international total 3 tries and 8 goals in 7 games, a very impressive record for a prop forward.

Regularly used as an impact player, coming off the bench when teams are tiring causing maximum disruption in their defences. He’s known for hard running and general disregard for his own health making Louis is a fan favourite. This year however he has his eye on a starting shirt as he works to improve his fitness and works toward cementing his spot in the 8 shirt to partner Mr reliable number 10 Dave Williams. Louis is relishing the opportunity and had this to say,

‘After spending the off-season recovering from injuries and rebuilding I am excited to get back to training, putting in 100% to improve as a player and then put all of that to use on the pitch. I’m really itching to prove myself out there and that starts with the two games in January (The Capital Challenge vs. Wigan on 16th Jan & Broncos vs. Skolars Jan 25th)’

Head coach Joe Mbu added,

‘It’s great to have Louis re-sign. He was very consistent coming off the bench last year as an impact player, was definitely one of our best forwards. He is a really exciting player to watch and just have around the squad’.

Tickets for the two games in January can be purchased on our brand new website by following this link http://www.skolarsrl.com/tickets/buy-tickets/

The number 8 shirt is still available to sponsor. If you’re interested in this shirt or want information on shirt sponsorship as a way of supporting the club or promoting your business then contact our commercial executive. jamesanthony@skolarsrl.com.

New, exciting, inclusive rugby sessions for young people in Haringey.

Inclusive rugby sessions for young people aged 14 to 25 are now up and running in Haringey. In a ground breaking partnership, the Access Sport Ignite Programme is partnering with London Skolars RFL and Haringey Rhinos RFC to deliver inclusive sessions for young people with varying disabilities.

The sessions are taking place at the brand new, floodlit, 3G pitch at White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre, every Wednesday between 4pm and 5pm. Coaches from both the Skolars and Rhinos will be delivering the sessions and ensuring all participants, regardless of ability, enjoy a high quality, inclusive playing experience.

Matt Cuss, Skolars Community Development Manager will have overall responsibility for coaching and says “the coaching team have some great ideas to make sure the sessions are fun for everybody. London Skolars are excited to be part of the new partnership and we’re looking forward to introducing more young people to such a great game.”

The new inclusive sessions are a key stage in the development of rugby in the borough and demonstrate the commitment of both London Skolars and Haringey Rhinos to making rugby a sport for everybody.

Helen Rayfield, Haringey Rhinos’ Director of Youth Rugby, confirms “the Rhinos are thrilled to be part of such a great initiative which is part of our ongoing commitment to develop rugby in Haringey.”

The sessions will focus on fun and enjoyment, will welcome young people who just want to give it a try, and those that have tried it, liked it, and want to play again!

Sarah Train, London Club Development Manager for Access Sport says “Access Sport is very enthusiastic about this innovative development for the Ignite Programme in Haringey. The inclusive rugby sessions will focus on fun and participation, and we are hoping to attract young people from both Haringey and the surrounding boroughs. London Skolars are proud to welcome back Aaron Small. Aaron has returned to the club with which he started as a junior and progressed through to First Grade. After developing and making himself a regular name on the teamsheet Aaron left for a two years stint at southern rival club Hemel Stags.

He comes off the back of two very strong years where he has been seen to continually improve all aspects of his game. A strong running centre known for his aggression Aaron will be a welcomed addition to the continually improving squad that coach Joe Mbu is constructing for the 2015 League 1 season.

Looking to make a successful return to the club which first introduced him to the wonderful game of Rugby League Aaron had this to say,

‘I’m very happy to be back to where I started my rugby. I enjoyed my last two seasons at Hemel and gained a lot of experience. I am looking forward to meeting the new squad and training at the great facilities that New River has to offer.’

Head coach of 4 years Joe Mbu commented,

‘We’re excited to have Aaron re-join us. Since he has been playing more regular first team rugby over the past 2 years he seems to have picked up plenty of skills, maturity and knowledge, which we are looking forward to see transferred into a strong year for Skolars’
