Skolars withdraw from Southern Conference League for 2024
It is with regret that London Skolars announce that they have withdrawn from this season’s Southern Conference League.
“We knew that we would lose a number of players from the League 1 side at the end of last season.” explained club Chairman Adrian Fraine. “We also knew that the Southern Conference League is a very high standard of Rugby League in the Community game and that we would need to recruit to add to the core of players that remained with us from last season.”
“We had a new coach appointed and were confident that his experience of the game in the capital would ensure that the additional recruitment would make us competitive in 2024. However, work commitments meant he did not take up the role as planned and that came within a couple of months of the start of the season, making it much harder to make the necessary player recruitment.”
“We’re very grateful to Joe Mbu for holding the fort in the close season and to Mark Croston for taking over at short notice. However, having been unable to fulfil fixtures in recent weeks, it was clear that there was no alternative but to withdraw from this season’s competition with immediate effect.”
“We’ve already started the process for the recruitment of a new head coach for 2025 and that’s the sort of lead time that’s clearly needed to be able to put together a squad for next season in whatever competition we play in”
