Rugby League has a big weekend planned in London between the 23rd and 25th August, with three events planned in the capital. This starts with London Skolars’ Friday night game which is followed by the Challenge Cup final on the Saturday.​ The Sunday sees a massive Nines festival taking place with teams from all around the world taking part at the East London rugby ground, West Ham.

The Nigerian Rugby League Association and Ghanaian Rugby League have formed a partnership to enter a combined team into the competition under the name “West Africa United”. The competition already has teams from Scotland, Wales, USA, Serbia, and Lithuania. “The London 9’s is both an exciting and important opportunity for Ghanaian based rugby league players in the UK to be part of the National Team Selection pathway. We know we have a number of players who are eligible and we are looking forward to working alongside Nigeria to showcase some of the talent we have on offer. Many thanks go to Ade Adebisi and the Ghana Rugby League Federation for helping us to support this great project”. Said Andy Gilvary, Ghana Head Coach. Ade Adebisi, Nigerian Vice-Chairman added: “It’s exciting to think in a few months an African representative team could be playing the likes of RedStar Belgrade or a team from the USA or Lithuania. This is the kind of event that could capture the imagination of Londoners and bring attention to the game in the city. With over 1 million Nigerians living in London, this could really take the game to a new audience in one of the world’s most important cities.”
