London Skolars held an open day at Haringey Sixth Form College over the weekend in a bid to recruit for the club’s 2019 Academy team, which will be based at the college.
The club is keen to continue promoting its pathway from Junior and Academy level through to the first team setup. London Skolars prides itself on promoting youth and producing future stars of the sport. Kev Flanagan, London Skolars’ Community Development Manager, commented:
“It was great to meet Russ Lawrence, the Head Teacher, who was very passionate about his College, the students and the sport of Rugby League. We also met with Dan Searle, the College’s Head of Sport, who was very interested in the pathway London Skolars could provide for the right players.
With just a few months to go before the 2019 Betfred League 1 season gets underway, London Skolars are working to improve the gameday atmosphere and experience at New River Stadium. Kev was pleased to also meet with a local orchestra while at Haringey and hopes they will perform at Skolars games during the new campaign. He added:
“We also met and listened to the Pan Nation Steel band who, fingers crossed, we may see at the New River Stadium in the New Year. All in all it was a great day which will be repeated in February and March, where we will be signing more prospective players onto the team.”
