Coaches player of the year returns for 2017

27th October 2016

Last years coaches player Ryan Chester has re-signed for the London Skolars in 2017.

Ryan hails from Windsor in Berkshire and began his foray with rugby playing union for his school and local club side. It was not until university that Chester would be introduced to Rugby League, attending then BUCS Super 8 side St Mary’s. Originally Ryan was blooded into the game as a winger, with a good work rate and decent turn of speed. However, in his final year he converted to a prop/loose forward, where he flourished.

In his final year he was selected for the England student side that played in the 4 Nations tournament in Scotland.  Whilst at university he signed for the Hemel Stags who were then in the National Conference, winning the Conference title with them in 2012 after beating Huddersfield Underbank 17-10.

He made the jump with the club when they joined League 1, appearing regularly either starting or from the bench.

In 2016, he followed then Hemel Stags assistant coach Jermaine Coleman to the London Skolars where his game has flourished. Often starting in the thirteen shirt, Chester regularly tops the tackle chart, playing huge minutes and doing all of the often unseen work that allows the Skolars flair players to flourish.

His herculean efforts this season were rewarded with the coaches player of the year accolade, which also saw him come close to players player as well.

Ryan is available for sponsorship this season, if interested, please contact the club on 0208 888 8488 or alternatively
