Skolars Minis and Juniors Report

21st June 2016

This Saturday saw our U13’s back in action at New River, after a week or two on the road at away fixtures.

In what was the biggest turn-out seen this season, 27 players preceded to pull on the Skolars jersey and kit up for the fixture against the visitors Rutlish Raiders. Rutlish had beaten the Skolars earlier in the season, however the much improved Skolars were confident of a victory and were full of enthusiasm in their warm up as kick off approached.

The starting 13 from the Skolars received the first kick off and set about a fantastic opening passage of Rugby League. The solid running from the forwards, saw easy metres made, whilst the support play and accurate passing from the half-backs enabled any defensive errors to be exploited.

With such a large number of players to get game time, there were constant substitutions as the game went on and these changes unbalanced the Skolars a little bit, whilst the new players adjusted to the speed of the game. During this period Rutlish pushed on and got themselves back into the game with some resilient attack, which managed to finally break the Skolars defence.

The second half was very much of the same, with Skolars changes disrupting the flow of the game, however at this age it is all about giving as many players as possible the chance to play the game and Head Coach Paul Quill managed this superbly.

At the final whistle the Skolars had run out winners by 36-24.

There were no other Junior fixtures involving our Junior team’s this weekend. But our U15’s & U16’s came together for a joint session on the Main Stadium pitch. This session was run by U17’s coach Sean Scott, and acted as a stepping stone session to give the new combined team an introduction to each other, to ease their transition before the 2017 season.

Our Mini’s also got in on the act on Perth Road too where they were busy preparing for their next Festival at Harpenden Roosters on 25th June. A fun and innovative session was led by Dave Morgan and Manny Qadar.

This weekend’s sees a full programme of fixtures our:

Minis Festival at Harpenden Roosters

U13’s travel to Sussex Merlins

U15’s travel to North Herts Crusaders

U17’s host Richmond Warriors
