After a break over the winter months, this Saturday sees the return of our youngest Skolars star’s to New River.
London Skolars Mini’s, which has seen an unprecedented growth over the past 2 seasons continue their development with their first session of 2016 this Saturday at 11am on Perth Road playing fields.
The Mini’s was set up 2 years ago now with the aim to extend our Player Pathway right down to the youngest age groups. It aims to introduce the sport of Rugby League to children in a safe and supportive environment, so that they learn, above all, to enjoy the game and play it in the right team spirit. Now in our third season, we can field sides at U7, U9 and U11 and regularly compete in Festivals across London, against other Primary Rugby League sides.
One of the main factors of our growth has been the success of our Sky Try Programmes which are delivered by Community Development Manager Matt Cuss ‘Sky Try funding is an integral part of building up our Mini’s section, it has enabled us to deliver Primary Rugby League into a far greater number of Primary Schools than in previous years and as such introduce an increasing number of local children to the game of Rugby League and to London Skolars.’
Cuss continued ‘on April 12th in conjunction with Haringey Sports Development, we will host over 20 Haringey Primary Schools here at London Skolars and its events like this that give us a really good platform to promote our Mini’s Section and the club as a whole. We will certainly be on the lookout for some star players and hope to see many of the children make the return trip to New River as a member of our Mini’s Section.’
Huw Bevan will head up the U7’s and U9’s with Dave Roberts once again taking the reins as U11’s Head Coach, both are assisted by a network of experienced and well qualified assistant coaches. The highlight of the year will undoubtedly be the London Skolars Primary Festival which is scheduled for Saturday July 9th, the date of the 1st team’s home fixture against Kingstone Press League One newcomers Toulouse. With sponsorship being secured and merchandise and activity stalls already being planned it promises to be a great day for the whole club.
Asked for his comments as the Season looks to kick off, Dave Roberts said ‘we are really excited for the season ahead, London Skolars Minis is a great chance to have some fun, make new friends and get fit over the Summer months, we are actively recruiting school Years 2,3,4,5 and 6 and encourage anyone who is interested or wants to experience a fantastic environment to come along on Saturday and join us.
