We are now less than 2 weeks away from the London Skolars 20th Anniversary Celebration. As part of the evening the club board has decided to inaugurate a former Skolar into the London Skolars Hall of Fame on the evening.
Please see below the 5 nominees and a brief summary of their considerable contribution to the London Skolars RL over the last 20 years. They truly have represented the club with honour and distinction over our rich history.
The club would like you all to provide a 3-2-1 vote for your top 3 nominations out of the 5 names listed below as follows: 3 votes for your top nomination, 2 votes for your 2nd nomination, 1 vote for your 3rd nomination. Can you please return your 3-2-1 nomination in email to janerichards@skolarsrl.com by no later than close of business on Monday 2nd November. The votes will be tallied and form the basis for selecting the inaugural Hall of Fame inductee.
Austen Aggrey
The leading try scorer of the professional era, Austen joined the club part way through 2004 and played 179 games over the next 8 years. He scored the majority of his 57 tries on the wing, where his tough running style made him a difficult man to stop.
Bobby Brown
One of the regulars in the National Conference League days, Bobby started playing for the Skolars at an age when most players would be hanging up their boots, but the threequarter belied his years and pace and power. After his pro debut at 41, he moved into the junior section, where he was instrumental in passing on his knowledge for a decade.
Gareth Honor
Gareth joined the club midway through the 2003 season, going on to play 198 games over 9 seasons, more first team games for the club than any other player. As well as being the fulcrum of many of any attacking move, Gareth scored 33 tries and 1 drop goal.
Charlie Oyebade
Oybade joined the club in 1995 soon after its inception. Records of try scorers in the early days aren’t complete, but Charlie must have scored close to 100 tries for the first team, including 7 in one London League game against Ipswich Rhinos. The pro era came a little too late in his career and 3 tries in 25 games does not do justice to his weaving running skills on the wing. Charlie also contributed to the club at reserve level including London League wins with the ‘A” team and Haringey Hornets.
Paul Thorman
Paul joined the club in 2007 going onto top the club’s goal scoring chart for an unparalleled 4 consecutive seasons. Rarely missing a game, the half-back kicked 223 goals and scored 11 tries and created countless others in 107 appearances. Paul’s development work also saw a period of strong progress in the junior sides.
