London Skolars joined a host of other London Rugby League clubs at the Palace of Westminster this week to showcase the breadth of the sport in and around the capital.
Skolars were joined by other clubs, the London Foundation, South East MP’s and Members of the Parliamentary Rugby League Group at the reception to celebrate the game.
Matt Cuss, Skolars Community Development Manager, said: ‘It was a fantastic event in such a unique venue, it was a great chance to meet up with the other clubs in London and to chat about all things Rugby League. We work closely with the London Rugby League Foundation and it was great to see the full impact of the work that they are doing across the capital.’
Cuss continued ‘it was also a really great opportunity for many of the clubs to meet their MP’s and I had a great discussion with Catherine West who is the MP for Hornsey and Wood Green. She was extremely interested in the work that we are doing and was particularly passionate about our school work that we are currently delivering in partnership with the London Rugby League Foundation. Being an Australian, sport and Rugby League in particular has always played a large part in her life and hopefully we will be honoured by her presence at a few of our games and events throughout the course of the season.’
Catherine West, the club’s local Member of Parliament said “it is always a pleasure to welcome constituents to Parliament. I am delighted volunteers from London Skolars were able to visit the Palace of Westminster, celebrate rugby league, and be thanked for their hard work by the London Rugby League Foundation. The club does excellent work in the local community, and I look forward to supporting them as they continue to grow. I would encourage any of my colleagues with rugby league clubs in their constituencies to support the sport.”
Cuss echoed this ‘events like these do so much for the progression of Rugby League in London, support for the game and Skolars in particular from such high profile individuals like our Local MP and the rest of the Parliamentary Rugby League group is an invaluable resource in our on-going plans to continue to develop our club and grow Rugby League even further throughout North London.’
