Skolars travel to Yorkshire nomads for this weekend’s fixture

11th June 2015

London Skolars will be looking to move beyond the disappointing performance against Coventry Bears last weekend as they take on the currently homeless York City Knights this Sunday 3pm.

York, despite the disrupted season they’ve experienced due to their issues with relocating have been in relatively good form. They currently occupy 7th, one of the playoff spots in the table, accumulating five wins and only three losses in the process. The highlight of their season however came in the cup where they made it through to the 6th round and took on Super League champions St. Helens at Langtree Park. They head into this game on the back of arguably their best result of the season against promotion contenders, Rochdale Hornets, who they defeated 34-20, which was also their first victory against a fellow northern side. The squad was bolstered for this game by three players from nearby top division side Castleford Tigers, those were James Clare, Jordan Howden and London product who has also turned out for London Skolars, Michael Channing. Who, should he appear again this weekend will no doubt be looking forward to coming up against a horde of former team mates from his London Bronco’s days.

London Skolars enter into the game in somewhat patchy form. The positive vibe created by the gutsy, gritty wrestle against North Wales Crusaders soon subsided when the team were unable to match the effort levels against midlands side Coventry who emerged comfortably victorious 46-20. With pride somewhat dented, the squad will be looking to pull together on the back of a much needed tough week of training and rectify the multitude of issues that were evident on June 7th. However the club will have to achieve this without one of its standout performers to date this season in Will Fairhurst (pictured), who has been ruled out for what is likely the remainder of the season with knee ligament damage. The club will be hoping that the return of Harvey Burnett from London Bronco’s can fill this void somewhat.
