Friday Night Lights

20th August 2014

The focus of the rugby league world turns to London this weekend with the Champion Schools Finals, Tetley’s Challenge Cup Final and the traditional Friday Night Lights Kingstone Press Championship 1 fixture hosted by London Skolars.

For 2014 the event is being held at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium in Enfield, the home of Enfield Town FC and the opposition is Hunslet Hawks who will provide a stern test for the Skolars although Joe Mbu’s side will be going into the game full of confidence following their 36-12 victory away to the University of Gloucestershire All Golds last weekend.

A place in the play-offs may be out of reach for the North London side but with the biggest crowd of the season expected for the game the home side will be looking to build on their previous impressive Friday Night Lights performances with a good display against top class opposition.

However, the event is not just about the clash against Hunslet Hawks but a celebration of the sport with the day getting underway at 3.30pm with the first of two masters games which will see a London Select side take on the Political Animals on the adjacent pitch at Enfield Ignations RFC. The second game will see a South Coast Select outfit take on Medway Dragons.

Kicking off at 5.30pm will be an U15 game featuring London Skolars, who were unbeaten in their 2014 league campaign, against their counterparts from East Leeds which is sure to prove to be a tough test for the home side.

Also back by popular demand this year is the London Skolars Beer Festival which has been supported by Club sponsors Caveman Brewery and will have eight different brews on offer. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase food from a BBQ which proved to be very popular at the Family Day earlier this year.

Another welcome return will see the London Eclipse Cheerleader squad perform routines both pre-match and at half-time as well as helping to raise funds for the Club by selling raffle tickets for some great prizes including a magnum of Laurent Perrier champagne and a pair of tickets for Saturday’s Tetley’s Challenge Cup Final between Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos.

Advance tickets are available to purchase online at until midnight on Thursday 21st August, priced £10 adults and £5 concessions and can be collected on the day. Match day admission prices are £12 and £6 respectively with the turnstiles opening at 3.30pm and London Skolars look forward to welcoming fans from across the rugby league community to Enfield.
