After a well deserved months break, the Barnet and Southgate College Rugby Academy will be back in full swing as the start of pre-season beckons.
The college team, coached by Matt Cuss from London Skolars and Josh Ward from the Saracens Sport Foundation, enjoyed a successful season last year with a number of stand out performances and victories. Last year saw a number of players further their rugby by joining local clubs aswell as attending Middlesex County trials, 2 of the squad gained national recognition by representing the South East at the Regional College Championships in Nottingham. With the core of the squad remaining in place plus an additional 8 players joining for next season the Rugby Education Academy programme has an exciting season ahead.
The Rugby Education Academy programme, allows students to continue their further education whilst offering time, space and access to personal rugby development. Being involved in the Rugby Education Academy programme gives players the opportunity to compete in the Carnegie Champion Colleges tournament, the Natwest Schools Cup, the British Colleges Cup, the South East League, the BCS 7s.
The partnership also allows rugby development through attention to detail both on an individual and team basis. Through being involved in this programme, student athletes will have:
- Individual weights programmes, physiotherapy, rehab and recovery and video analysis.
- 6 hours contact time per week, working with both London Skolars and Saracens coaches.
- Full schedule of lessons, regular training and competition programmes.
- Training kit
- Regular use of college gymnasium facilities.
- A genuine pathway from the Rugby Academy through to Skolars 1st team.
This coming season will see the playing squad utilize both London Skolars new artificial surface and Allianz Park – home of Saracens RFC for both training and matches, supplying the squad with first class preparation facilities.
