There was a very welcome addition to the sizeable crowd this weekend at London Skolars home game against York City Knights, as the venue played host to the club’s Mini’ and Junior 2014 Awards.
Our youngest players turned up proudly sporting their red, black and green kits and were very vocal in their support for the first team as they put on a much improved performance against the league leaders.
The action packed day begun at 11am when our U12s hosted their counterparts from Brentwood Eels in what was a fiery encounter. The game was used as a training exercise with many of the side playing their first competitive game in Skolars ‘colours.
The day then moved into the confines of Enfield Town Football Club, where a Kids Zone included a bouncy castle, fire engine and facepainters for the children to enjoy. The BBQ was run by Skolars U9s and that provided some great food for all the hungry attendees.
The awards took place over in the West stand of the ground, and each age group had their own slot with which they could relive the season and enjoy listening to some highlights from each of their coaches. The awards winners for each age group were
U9s
Work Rate Award – Alex Simbari
Discipline Award – Jess Gordon
Team Work Award – Joe Roberts
U13s
Most Improved – Frazer Piercy Farley
Player of the Year – Will Prior
Coaches Player of the Year – Luca Bejandize
U15s
Most Improved – Arnold Harrison
Player of the Year – Andrew Tilley
Coaches Player of the Year – Joel Kpoku
U17s
Most Improved – Rodell Reid
Player of the Year – Dillon Adabie
Coaches Player of the Year – Amir Neziraj
After the awards all the players gathered with their friends and family over in the main stand and settled down to watch the First team go toe to toe with the visitors from York, providing some much needed vocal support for their elder team-mates. All in all it was a fantastic day out for the whole club with many people lending a hand on the day to make sure it ran as smoothly as possible. Whilst everyone gave a hand at some point, special mentions must go to Dave Roberts, Adeline Roberts and Hannah Gordon for manning and cooking the BBQ throughout the day, Danny Cadwallader, Huw Bevan and Paul Quill for their organisation and to Fred and Lorraine Pentecost also for their time and help.
As the London Junior League slowly draws to a close now, there are a number of important fixtures coming up for some of the age –groups. Our U17s are involved in knockout rugby this week as they host Croydon Hurricanes in the first round of play-offs. Our Minis travel to St Albans on July 19th to play in their last festival of the year, on the same day at New River our U15s play their semi-final against the winners of this week’s knockout play-offs.
All to play for in the next few weeks !
