Preview of Sunday’s Kingstone Press Championship 1 trip to Oldham

29th May 2014

London Skolars coach Joe Mbu remains confident his team can reach their goals for 2014, despite losing their last three matches.

Skolars haven’t won since mid April, when they beat Hemel Stags. Since then they have lost to York City Knights, Gateshead Thunder and Gloucestershire All Golds, but Mbu is upbeat.

He said: “We’re at full strength to face Oldham, and we want to start getting some momentum going. We’re trying to get more consistency as a group.”

He added: “It’s always a challenge going up to Oldham and one we’re all too familiar with.

“Over the years we’ve come close and sometimes we’ve just lost at the end.

“We need to go up there, make sure we turn up understanding the pitch and facilities, and try to get the job done.

“There’s a lot of work for us still to do this year. We’ve revisited a couple of things and we understand we’re a long way from where we set our targets at the start of the season, but we don’t think our targets at the back end of the season are unachievable.”

Oldham coach Scott Naylor is defending an unbeaten home record in 2014.
