Having been given a 3rd round bye in the Tetley’s Challenge Cup all eyes were on MediaCityUK yesterday when the 4th round draw was made. Skolars fans were hoping for a pairing with a Super League giant but instead had to settle for a trip to face Championship side Sheffield Eagles.
Holders Wigan Warriors will begin their defence of the Tetley’s Challenge Cup with a trip to Dewsbury Rams after being paired with the Championship club in the fourth round draw.
Wigan, who won Rugby League’s most coveted trophy with a 16-0 victory over Hull FC at Wembley Stadium in front of 78,137 fans last August.
Hull will look to put that disappointment behind them with a home tie against Salford Red Devils, one of six all-Super League fixtures thrown up by a draw staged at the home of BBC Sport, MediaCityUK .
The other plum ties are Huddersfield Giants v St Helens in what is a repeat of the 2006 Challenge Cup final; the West Yorkshire derby between Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Leeds Rhinos; Hull Kingston Rovers v Warrington Wolves; and Catalan Dragons v London Broncos.
The home teams were drawn by the Mayor of Wigan, Councillor Billy Rotherham, and the away teams by David Barker, the Sales Director of sponsors Tetley’s, and was hosted by George Riley of BBC Radio 5 Live.
The draw was broadcast live on 5 Live Extra, Radio Manchester, Radio Leeds and Radio Humberside. Pictured above are the Mayor of Wigan, Councillor Billy Rotherham, and David Barker of Carlsberg UK with the Tetley’s Challenge Cup
