In what has been an absolutely fantastic season for London Skolars U19’s, their achievements have been recognized further afield than just the RL community, with them being nominated for a Haringey Celebrating Sport Award in the category of Junior Team of the Year.
This nomination tops off an outstanding season for the lads, who as we reported throughout the year, swept the board in all competitions, bringing the London 9’s, the League Winners, Youth Challenge Cup and Grand Final trophies to New River. On top of this 4 of the squad were rewarded for their performances in the U19’s league by making their first team debuts in the Northern Rail Cup fixture at Rochdale. Head Coach Matt Cuss commented ” it’s fantastic for the teams achievements to be recognized outside of the club environment. Haringey has a rich heritage of sporting success and the Celebrating Sports Awards are a true celebration of all the sporting activity that is going on throughout the borough, the evening itself looks set to be fantastic and it will top it off if the boys are named as winners on the night.”
With an inspirational speaker as Master of Ceremonies and representatives in attendance from many key organisations from both within the borough and across London, the awards recognize and reward local people who contribute towards the sporting sector in Haringey.
The club has tasted success before at these prestigious awards being named ‘Sport Club of the Year’ back in 2011. Fingers crossed that the U19’s can emulate this success on Tuesday the 19th November when the awards are held at Tottenham Hotspur’s White Hart Lane ground.
