A late try by Gareth Raynor sealed the win for Skolars in Neath to ensure a promotion play-off place for the first time since the club joined the professional ranks in 2003.

Skolars went into a early lead after sustained pressure saw James Anthony come into the attacking line and score down the left flank. However, an error close their own try line saw them concede a try with Haydn Peacock scoring for the Scorpions.

They re-established the lead soon afterwards when a cut-out pass by Andy McLean was quickly moved to the wing by Anthony for Raynor to touchdown. The home side took the lead when Dalton Grant stretched out to ground the ball over the line, but that lead was shortlived as Mike Worrincy scored for Skolars.

On the stroke of half-time Dylan Skee managed to burrow through the defence and, after missing his first three kicks, converted his try to give Skolars a 10-28 lead at the break.

They went further ahead soon after the restart. A move to the wing on the sixth tackle looked to have broken down, but Raynor moved inside and Erjon Dollapi was quick to race onto a short chip, the prop kicking the ball into the in-goal area to touchdown.

With Welsh Rugby Union international Andy Powell in their ranks whilst on loan from Wigan, South Wales fought back with three tries from Dom Crosby, Ben Moores and George Clarke.

That put them 28-24 ahead with 13 minutes remaining. However, Skolars forced an error close to Scorpions line and Anthony again moved up from full-back to create an overlap for Raynor to score his second try of the game with Skee adding his third conversion of the afternoon.

Skolars then had to withstand a late attack by the Welsh stopping Haydn Peacock from grounding the ball over the line in the last minute to record a significant victory for the club at The Gnoll.
