In another busy week across all age-groups for the Skolars Juniors, it was the U19’s who produced the standout result of the weekend, beating Eastern Rhinos away 38-16 to go top of the league for the first time this year.
Missing a few key players, the remaining U19’s stepped up to the plate and produced the best first half of the season, racing into a 26-6 halftime lead. Apart from a purple 10 minutes in the second half, where the Rhinos battled back against the Skolars resilient defence the second half continued in the same vein, with Skolars scoring some superb tries to finish the game with a 38-16 win.
Back at New River, the U14’s were unlucky to slip to a narrow 24-20 defeat at home to Brixton Bulls, in a match that produced a contender for Skolars try of the season. The U14’s fullback Issac caught the ball on the 5th only a metre from his own try line, beat 3 players then raced the length of the field for a stunning try. Unfortunately a stuttering first half left the Skolars chasing the game and even though they hammered at the Brixton defence all game they could not find a way through for that crucial score.
In the other home fixtures the U16’s and U12’s both produced good performances against tough opposition, the U16’s going down 34-16 and the U12’s losing by 48 points to 4. Both these teams are in a transition year, but are improving week on week and results will pick up as the season progresses.
In a final note from us, London Skolars Mini’s section travelled to Hemel for the 3rd Primary RL Festival this season, this young team of U9’s and U11’s are gelling together nicely and came away unbeaten from the festival, winning 2 and drawing 2. These youngsters are all completely new to the game and to see them producing such great results is extremely pleasing, they are next in action at the end of the month, when they travel to Southend for the 4th Festival in the Primary RL series.
