Skolars ‘A’ started their defence of the London Challenge Trophy with a dramatic last-gasp victory over last season’s Southern Premiership Grand Final winners Hammersmith Hills Hoists. It was Nil-Nil at half-time, with Skolars having bombed a couple of chances going down the Perth Road slope.
The visitors made a good start to the second half with two tries to put them 0-10 up. Skolars levelled the scores with Danny Burke (pictured above) being involved in both tries. The first saw him break from dummy half for Liam Duffy to continue the move to the line. Then a chip kick bounced away from the Hill Hoists full-back and Ibrahim Kabia took full advantage. Hammersmith took the lead again, but it shortlived, as Kabia scored his second try, with Ewan Thomas kicking his second conversion.
Joe Price played his first game after sustaining a broken hand back in March and his break opened up the defence for Danny Burke to score in the corner with seconds remaning for a 20-16 win.
