London Skolars have signed prop Rob Thomas for the 2013 Championship One campaign. The 22-year-old front rower was on dual registration from the London Broncos last season but played most of his rugby for the north London club.
Rob, from Ashford in Kent, began his Rugby League career with the West London Sharks before joining the Super League’s club’s Academy. He made his first team debut against the Bradford Bulls at Odsal in 2011.
He joins fellow prop and Skolars skipper Dave Williams in committing for the 2013 season. “I really enjoyed my time at Skolars last season,” said Rob, “and that’s one of the main reasons I decided to sign again this year. I’d played with most of the boys there when I was in the Academy and it was good to be back playing with them again.
“I had a few options but as I’m from London I wanted to stick with London and just see how far we can get with the Skolars. We did well last year and I think we can go one step further next season. I believe we can get into the top two and get promoted.”
London Skolars General Howard Kramer said: “I believe the signing of Rob Thomas, who was so effective last season when he was dual registered to the club, is a clear statement of intent from Skolars. It shows that Joe Mbu is putting together a strong squad, capable of challenging for promotion next season. After leaving Broncos Rob clearly had a number of playing options so everyone here is delighted that he chose to sign for London Skolars.”
