League Legends Morley and Peacock appeal to Rhinos and Wolves fans to support Skolars eve of Challenge Cup Extravaganza

23rd July 2012

England and Great Britain legends Adrian Morley and Jamie Peacock are imploring fans to extend their Carnegie Challenge Cup Final stay by joining London Skolars at their ‘Friday Night Lights’ Rugby League Festival.

Now in its seventh year, ‘Friday Night Lights’ will see the Co-operative Championship 1 side take on Whitehaven on August 24th (kick-off 6.30pm), just a day before Leeds Rhinos take on Warrington Wolves at Wembley Stadium in one of the sport’s showpiece events.

Rhinos’ Jamie Peacock believes it’s the perfect way for his team’s supporters to kick off what will hopefully be a weekend to remember.

“It’s a fantastic achievement to be going to Wembley again this year,” said the former England and Great Britain captain.

“The weekend in London is a very special one in the Rugby League calendar. This is especially the case since London Skolars began their Friday Night Lights event. It’s a great evening for both sets of fans ahead of the final.”

England and Warrington stalwart Adrian Morley is adamant that his side’s trip down to the capital will help spread the Rugby League gospel.

“We are over the moon at getting to another Wembley final,” said Morley.

“It’s a special weekend and one that helps spread the game beyond its traditional borders. I encourage all Warrington fans to support a superb event run by the London Skolars. It will be a packed house and they need all the support they can get to help them grow the game in London.”

Skolars estimate a crowd in excess of 1,000, their largest gate of the season. The Political Animals, a team made up of MPs who play the game, will take on an invitational side before the Co-operative Championship 1 match-up.

The evening will feature the very popular Real Ale Festival in the Olympic Suite with courtesy buses from sponsors Arriva available to ferry fans to and from the local tube station.

Skolars’ General Manager Howard Kramer said: “Friday Night Lights is a great way to kick-off Challenge Cup weekend and every year we attract Rugby League supporters from all over the country. Since its inception, Friday Night Lights has grown year on year and is an ideal curtain raiser for the main event taking place a few miles away. It has undoubtedly helped Skolars raise the profile of Rugby League in the capital.”

Tickets, priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions (£12 and £6 on the night), can be purchased in advance by contacting the Skolars office on 020 8888 8488 or e-mail info@skolarsrl.com.
