Oldham RLFC 25 London Skolars 24

16th July 2012

London Skolars came agonisingly close to a win against Oldham, but a converted try and a drop goal in the last five minutes denied them the chance of leapfrogging the home side in the table as they went down 25-24.

Skolars had taken the lead early in the game when Will Colleran timed to perfection his run onto Dylan Skee’s kick to the right corner. Skee  converted and later forced a goal line drop out sooner afterwards, but they couldn’t make the pressure tell and Oldham levelled the scores when Chris Murphy touched down in the corner.

Some quick passing along the line saw Joe Price score, but Skee couldn’t add the conversion. But it wasn’t long before Oldham re-asserted themselves through a try for Jamie Dallimore, who added the second of his four conversions, to put the home sidee 12-10 up at half-time.

Joe Price added his second try soon after the restart, but the lead changed hands again when Oldham’s full-back stretched over the line. When Lamont Bryan ran at pace on to a short Skee pass to score under the posts, followed soon afterwards by Matt Thomas’ 30th try for the club it looked like Skolars would win. But Skee missed the conversion, leaving a six point margin and when Greenwood scored his second, Dallimore’s conversion levelled the scores with 5 minutes remaining.

Skolars had one attack, but couldn’t find a gap in the defence and it looked like it could be repeat of the draw earlier in the season. However, Oldham advanced downfield and Neil Roden’s drop goal gave them the victory.
