Skolars entertain third placed Workington at New River on Sunday knowing that their visitors have an impressive record in the capital, having never been beaten at Skolars.
Skolars coach Joe Mbu knows that Workington won’t be taking the match lightly following a narrow defeat in Cumbria in April when Skolars picked up a bonus point when they went down by 27-20.
Town will be travelling down on Saturday to stay overnight in preperation for the match. Joint Coach Gary Charlton explained “We are preparing for what will be a very tough game, we’re unbeaten in the capital but we will be up against the strongest Skolars side that we’ve faced. They are unbeaten at home in the league so something will give next weekend. We can expect a real battle in the middle of the park and on a narrow field we can expects a real contest round the ruck area.”
Town expect to have virtually a full squad to select from ,with no major injury concerns after last weekends game, with only long term absentees Darren King and Jonathan Dawes missing.
Skolars similarly have no major injury concerns and Ade Adebisi, named in the Championship 1 side of the month for May, will be looking to add to his tally of 12 tries in 12 starts. Close to getting a spot in that team of the month was Brad Hopkins, who has settled in really well since arriving from Australia. Brad now boasts 7 tries from 7 starts.
Coach Joe Mbu commented “Two weeks ago against Gateshead I was pleased with the second half performance and the tries started to come as we wore the Thunder defence down. The team didn’t have a fixture last weekend so everyone is feeling fresh and ready to maintain our impressive home form. We should have a few players back in contention for places in the 17. Andy McLean has made a good recovery from his shoulder injury, whilst Austen Aggrey is available again after missing a few games because of work commitments.”
Skolars v Workington kicks off at 2.00pm. Tickets are available to purchase on the day priced at £12 for adults and £6 for concessions.
