Doncaster 58 London Skolars 16

12th April 2012

Skolars crashed to a heavy defeat on Good Friday conceding 11 tries.

There were two changes from the side that had played Workington. With Rob Thomas and Matt Thomas both injured, there were debuts for Mike Worrincy, who had signed earlier in the week from Leigh Centurions and Australian James Roche.

Doncaster opened the scoring on six minutes with Lee Waterman taking full advantage of a John Paxton error. Soon afterwards Tom Hudson scored, sidestepping around James Anthony. After Skolars conceded possession following a forward pass from Neil Thorman, Keiran Hyde cut through centre to keep the home side’s scoring rate at over a point per minute.

Skolars rallied and after forcing an error deep in Doncaster’s half, they moved the ball to the left from the scrum with James Anthony joining the line to score his first try of the season.

However, another forward pass saw them concede possession again and the ball went left again for Hudson to score his second. Anthony scored his second try from a looping run from a Dylan Skee pass, but it wasn’t long before Doncaster went further ahead, Hudson recording his hat-trick after Mike Worrincy had conceded two quickfire penalties. A further penalty led to Waterman’s second down the left just before half-time.

The second half didn’t start any better, Neil Thorman losing control from the kick-off. Doncaster moved the ball left from the scrum for Hudson’s fourth try, just 34 seconds into the second half, with Waterman recording his hat-trick four minutes later. Further tries for Kyle Bibb and Grant Edwards saw the Dons pass the half-century. Paul Cooke kicked seven conversions.

Brad Hopkins scored late on after a good Austen Aggrey run, but there was still time to concede yet another penalty and Hudson took full advantage to record his fifth try of a Bob Hoskins’ afternoon.
