All four junior teams were in action on Sunday with the 14’s and 18’s at home to Greenwich Admirals whilst the 12’s and 16’s travelled to take on their Staines counterparts:
London Skolars u18s finally got there first win of the season againstGreenwich Admirals. The game was always going to be a high scoring game when Greenwich were only able to raise 12 players for the game. This meant Skolars would only field 12 too, with 5 on the bench. Skolars came out of the blocks first with a try from Captain Louie Sutherland. The first half was very one-sided with a lot of possession and tries coming from London Skolars. Skolars u18s let their foot off the gas and Greenwich took full advantage with back to back tries. Try scorers for London Skolars u18s were David Ogufere, Iliess Macani, & Gavin Dilworth. There was an impressive, if not a little unorthodox, kicking display coming from Iliess Macani – a successful kicking day, only missing 1 from 10.
The game was very much one for the neutral rugby league fan with 18 tries scored in total. Man of the Match goes to Iliess Macani scoring a total of 30 points. Louie Sutherland was very close to stealing the award with a very strong game at prop, offering himself for a lot of the ball and a good defensive display. The final score was 58-40 to Skolars.
The Skolars 16s came up short again this weekend against a tough Staines Titans. The Titans team boasted 7 London Broncos players and their impact on the game was evident throughout. The North London outfit struggled to get into the game, but a try from D’Shaun Elliotte attempted to even up the scores. A great performance from Tuoyo Egodo in the halfs was capped off with a try and conversion to his name. The final score was 56 10 in favour of Staines.
The Skolars under 14s couldn’t make it back to back wins after defeating Newham last week, going down to Greenwich at home with a squad decimated by illness and injury. Greenwich played to the warm, dry conditions with some outstanding passing shown coming out on top, 52-14. The Skolars points came courtesy of a try and a goal from leading try scorer Jerome Yates and two tries from man of the match, hooker Alex Pentecost.
Finally an under strenghth 12’s squad played took on a strong Staines squad and went down by 64-4.
