BUCS Rugby League Final To Be Televised

15th March 2012

The country’s elite student Rugby League talent will go head to head live on television on Thursday March 22 when Premier Sports screens the 2012 BUCS Rugby League Championship Final from Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

The match is the climax to the British Universities & Colleges Sport Rugby League season, which this year involved more than 70 University Rugby League teams alongside a large number of further education competitions.

RFL Director of Participation David Gent said: “We are delighted that the BUCS final will be televised and it’s a fantastic opportunity for a wider audience to see just how good the standard of University Rugby League is.

“The student game continues to expand and it’s fantastic that more young people than ever before are experiencing Rugby League at first hand. I’m sure that everyone who tunes in to see the BUCS final will be impressed by the high standards of play.”

Premier Sports Executive Producer Neal Coupland said: “Premier Sports is delighted to broadcast the BUCS Championship Final amongst the fine selection of Rugby League it has on the channel this year.

“Last year University Rugby League served up a thrilling series of games for Premier Sports viewers and I’m sure this year’s final will make equally compelling viewing.”

2011 winners Leeds Met Carnegie will be looking to defend their title but first they face the challenge of Gloucestershire University All Golds in the semi-final in Sheffield on Thursday March 15. In the other semi-final, 2011 runners-up Loughborough University will go up against Newcastle University.
