London Skolars start their 2012 Northern Rail Cup campaign with a tie against top French side Toulouse Olympique on Sunday. The visitors have returned to the French Elite league after three seasons playing English sides in the Championship, but will be keen to emulate the success of 2005 when they reached the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup.
“Having played in France, I know how strong the leading sides are in that competition” said Skolars Head Coach Joe Mbu. “Toulouse have been playing throughout the winter and are very much in form. However, we have home advantage and the weather conditions are likely to be a little different from the south of France. We pushed them hard over there last February and I’m looking to improve on that at the weekend.”
Skolars travel to Batley and South Wales, before their final game in the group stages when they entertain Halifax. Sunday’s game against Toulouse kicks-off at 1pm at New River Stadium.
