Three talented rugby league players from London Skolars HE Partner Middlesex University, have been selected for the South East England Students Regional Representative side.
Tim Royall (MSc Strength and Conditioning), Aidan Doherty (BSc Sport & Exercise Science), and Bradley Edwards (FDSc Coaching and Sports
Development) were all selected to form the 24-man squad after attending the trials, which were held at St Mary’s University College, Strawberry Hill on Sunday. Fifty five students from 12 different universities across the South East took part and after 30 minutes of skills and warm up drills they were divided into three teams, each playing four 20 minute games, under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Andrew Gilvary and his assistants David McMeeken, Andrew Champ and Wesley Newton.
Assistant Coach and Player at Middlesex Uni RL, Nimai Parmar commented, “Aidan (pictured above), Bradley and Tim all put in a great effort on Sunday and it’s a testament to the excellent rugby league set up we have here at Middlesex that they have all made the Squad. I’m sure the players stand a good chance in making it to the student national sides and they will all look forward to playing in the London Skolars performance pathway over the summer.”
The South East England students squad will have a one-day training camp at the end of January then play two friendly fixtures in February and March. They will then travel to the Regional Festival on March 31st where they will take on the other regional sides.
The best players at this competition will be selected to represent the national students (England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland) in the Home Nations tournament in the summer.
