Whilst the 1st team enjoyed a rare weekend off and the 2nd team enjoyed a hard worked victory over St Albans, two of Skolars junior teams were in action on Saturday.
Skolars under 16s looked to build on their performance against Wigan St Judes when they travelled to Surry to take on Elmbridge Eagles. In the last encounter with the Eagles Skolars were left licking their wounds after an 80-0 score line. The weather in Surry played a big part as both teams tried to battle the elements and control the ball. The torrential rain played into the Skolars hands as their no nonsense brand of rugby league worked well in the conditions. Sahid Kapaka looked solid throughout the game scoring one of the Skolars tries. Jack Avery slotted back into the team after a broken collar bone and added some well needed organisation and structure to the team. The final score was 40-8 in favour of the Eagles, but Skolars are improving with every game and look to get points out of the last few regular season matches. Skolars 16s Coach Graeme Spencer’s day was not finished as he then dashed back to White Hart Lane to play for Skolars 2nd team against St Albans and he scored a try!
Special mention goes to Guy Reed who played his last game for the Skolars after joining the club at an early age. Whilst at the club Reed has gained representative honours for North London at every age group from under 12s, through to under 16s this year. He has left the club to move to Cumbria with his family, and will be sorely missed. Both the under 16s players and the Skolars club would like to wish Guy, and the Reeds, the best of luck with their venture up north.
Paul Thorman took his under 14’s to Richmond, in similarly wet and windy conditions, and saw them go down to a 68-4 defeat.
