London Skolars, and the whole rugby league world, have been saddened to hear of the passing of former Warrington legend Paul Darbyshire, who has died at the age of 41.
Paul was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease last September, and despite bravely fighting the illness, lost his battle earlier today and passed away in his sleep.
The former Wigan St Patrick’s player made his debut for Warrington in March 1989 and played for the club until 1997, racking up 106 appearances and scoring 60 points. He also kicked a goal in the 1990 Challenge Cup Final defeat to Wigan at Wembley.
Paul contributed immensely to Warrington for 18 years as a player, then later in a coaching and conditioning capacity. He moved to Munster in 2007 where he worked as a conditioner.
Skolars Director of Rugby, Mark Croston, had this to say on hearing the news: “I knew Paul well and our friendship dates back to our time together at Wigan St Patricks. This is terribly sad news and our thoughts go out to Paul’s family and friends at this most difficult time. Everyone at London Skolars offers their condolences”.
A tribute to Paul will be made at the Wolves’ game this Friday against St Helens
