Capital Transfer For Williams

London Skolars have made their first new signing for 2012, with David Williams moving across the capital from Quins RL. The 6 foot 7 inch 24 year old prop has played 20 games for the Super League club since his debut in 2008. He’s also no stranger to Skolars, having played 15 games for the club whilst on loan.

Head Coach Joe Mbu is excited about the capture of Williams. “David has some great experience at the top level and I’m delighted that he is joining us. His signing is also a sign of the strength of the game in London. In the past, players leaving Quins chose to go north, now we can attract players to New River”.

Also re-signing this week is Oliver Bloom. The 25 year old forward has played 39 games for the club since signing from Gloucestershire Warriors in 2009.

2011 London Junior League club of the year, London Skolars Juniors, have been running sessions for newcomers to Rugby League through the Give it a Go! scheme.

Give it a Go! is the first, ever Sports Club Festival in North London and is being organised by PRO-ACTIVE North London and the four local authorities (Enfield, Barnet, Waltham Forest and Haringey). Give it a Go! aims to increase participation in sport and physical activity across North London and ultimately increase club membership by supporting clubs to open up their doors to new participants during a free sports month in October 2011.

The Skolars ran 3 sessions throughout October with the aim of engaging with new members and were successful in encouraging new players to come and try out at the Wood Green based club.

Community Manager Paul Thorman commented, “We’ve just come off the back of a very successful season and, although we are currently in off season, it’s really important we maintain momentum. Having the opportunity to provide these “Give it a Go!” sessions with the marketing assistance that has accompanied it has been invaluable. We’ve managed to attract down new members to the club who are all really enthused about getting involved next season.”

London Skolars have re-signed Ade Adebisi, their leading try scorer in each of the last two seasons. The 25 year old winger scored 17 tries this year, making it into the Championship 1 end of season dream team, despite missing the last month of the season to undergo a knee operation.

Skolars’ Head Coach Joe Mbu commented. “Ade is making a speedy recovery after his surgery and I’m delighted that he has signed for us again next season. His pace.

With half-back Dylan Skee re-signing last week, Skolars have retained last seasons’ leading goal and points scorer. As Mbu’s squad for next season starts to take shape, also signing for the club this week were England Student International Aidan Pritchard and Will Colleran. Colleran joined the club from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats midway through the 2011 campaign and quickly made an impression at centre.

Yesterday saw the first round of the Carnegie Champion Schools competition take place in North London. The year 7s took to the field for the right to represent North London in the regional playoff against the winners of the Hertfordshire competition.  Enfield’s Aylward Academy took on Highgate Wood from Haringey.

Both teams were tentative in the opening stages and with this being their first game of contact Rugby League there were some early mistakes from both outfits.  Once the players had settled into the game it was Aylward that took the lead.  One of the stand-out players for the team from Enfield was DD Kabengere who scored a brace of tries.  Highgate Wood never looked too far out of the game, with Dylan Jennings and Jake Canton-Perry both putting in strong performances in attack and defence.  The final score was 36-4 to Aylward Academy, who will be working hard over the next few weeks to prepare themselves for the playoff match with the Herts champions in the coming months.
