London Skolars came to the assistance of Denmark Rugby League ahead of their international debut against local rivals Sweden in a game played in Gothenburg on July 2nd.
The Skolars have a strong affinity with Rugby League in Scandinavia with ex players Nigel Kitching heavily involved in Denmark RL, Scott Edwards coaching Sweden RL and Warren Heilig founding RL Norge in 2008 and, more recently, becoming Scandinavian Development Manager with a responsibility for Rugby League Development throughout Scandinavia.
Skolars Community Manager Paul Thorman said of the kit donation, “It came about from a conversation with Nigel Kitching at last year’s Friday Night Lights event, in which Nigel participated in our Masters competition. He explained he was looking for assistance for the newly formed Denmark RL. We thought this was the most appropriate donation we could make and are honoured that Denmark carried the London Skolars crest on their international debut. The players looked smart in their new kit and we wish them well, as well as all the other Scandinavian nations, in carrying the Rugby League flag in yet another outpost.”
For the record, Denmark finished the victors, defeating Sweden by 52 points to 12.
