The London Skolars have implemented a player pathway to ensure we are represented by people from the local community. We feel it is important for the club to have people who take pride in representing their town or borough and this bodes well for a successful first team. The objectives of this pathway are as follows:
- Create London Skolars First Team Players of the Future
- Encourage Players Through Tangible Pathway
- Form Partnerships with Outside Organisations
- Formalise Development & Performance Plans
- Create a Coaching Pathway at Different Levels of the Game
- Take Responsibility for Player Development in the area
Our junior program plays a pivotal part in attempting to make this vision a reality.
London Skolars Juniors are one of the top performing Junior Sections in London. We are very proud of our history and heritage and consistently our teams reach the end of season play-offs of the London Junior League. We also have a great track record of individuals tasting success through selection for the London Junior Origin Series, the pinnacle of age-grade rugby league in London
Some highlights of the past few seasons include our U19’s achieving an unprecedented season treble, winning the Junior League, Grand Final and Challenge Cup. In 2014 our U15’s achieved a 100% record in their regular League season and won the London Junior League. Our U15’s in 2015 also won the London Junior League, and our U17’s beat East Leeds RLC in front of a big crowd at Friday Night Lights, 2015 also saw all 3 of our teams reached the play-offs for the first time in the club’s history.
Junior Rugby begins at U13 and continues as players move through U15’s and into the Academy age group of U17’s. All our London Skolars Junior Teams are an important part of the Player Pathway that forms the basis of what we try and do here at London Skolars and we hope that as players develop we can provide them with that crucial link between age-grade and professional Rugby League.
Notable successes of the Junior system here at London Skolars include our very own current First Team players – Dion Chapman, Smokie Junor, Aaron Small, Micheal and Judd Greenhalgh, Seb Kolasa, London Broncos star winger Illies Macani and our former Head Coach Joe Mbu.
The season begins in March where our Junior Skolars compete against other London teams in a regional league format, before the season culminates in a play-off type competition against teams from across the whole of London resulting in a Grand Final Day played in late July.
The majority of our Junior Teams train on a Wednesday evening from 5.00pm until 6.30pm at White Hart Lane Community Sports Centre, N22 5QW, the home of London Skolars, but this is dependent on each coach and age group.
