London Skolars host Oxford Rugby League on Saturday 12th March 6pm in their first home league match for the season, at New River Sport and Fitness.
Coming off the back of a first round loss against the York City Knights, the team was left rueing a missed opportunity against the promotion favourites.
“We really wanted to give ourselves the best chance to get into the grind and really challenge York,’’ says Head Coach Jermaine Coleman.
“They scored two tries off our errors so we only had ourselves to blame. In saying that we knew there was a whole second half to come by that stage of that game and we felt we were still in the game with plenty of time left,’’ he says.
Converting field position and possession will be a focus leading into this home game.
“We were disappointed about not converting our possession into points and that’s something we’ve been working on this week,’’ says Coleman.
“We know they’ll (Oxford) come ready to play and full of enthusiasm. They’ve got some big units who carry hard, so our focus remains on making sure we do the little things right throughout the game,’’ he says.
Oxford come off a 30-22 loss at home last week to Newcastle Thunder and will have plenty of motivation to post their first win for the season.
Oxford Rugby League signed new partnership agreements with Super League club Castleford Tigers and Championship club Batley Bulldogs, during the off-season. The agreements will bolster Oxfords squad with the allocation of dual registered players from the two clubs to turn out for Oxford throughout the season.
Skolars Club Captain Dave Williams will be made a special presentation after the game to commemorate his 100th game for London Skolars.
