PCUBED CITY TOUCH TOURNAMENT WINNERS 2011 – STRATTON METALS

On Friday 5th August the third London Skolars annual City Touch Tournament, sponsored this year by Pcubed, took place at the Honourable Artillery Company in the heart of the City of London.

On a very warm afternoon  twelve teams battled it out for the honour of being crowned City Touch Champions of 2011

Whilst there was definitely a fun element to proceeding there was a very competitive edge with every team giving their all on a hot, humid afternoon. The twelve teams were divided into two leagues of six, who then played their matches on the two pitches that had been so immaculately prepared by the HAC groundsmen.

From the twelve teams that started the afternoon we eventually had our semi-finalists. Last year’s winners Bloomberg failed to make the final, going out to a golden point in added time and the other losing semi-finalists were ETF Securities, who had battled hard all afternoon. This left Goldman Sachs and Stratton Metals to take to the field one more time, their seventh game of an energy sapping afteroon, and battle it out for the honour of lifting the winners trophy. Ten minutes were played but this couldn’t seperate the teams who finished regulation time tied on two points a piece. The match then went to a golden point decider and it was Startton Metals who scored the decisive point with a breakaway try to break the hearts of their gallant opponenets, Goldman Sachs, who had to content themselves with the runners-up trophy and medals.

Skolars Captain Neil Thorman presented the winners trophy to Stratton Metal’s Keith Dunleavy, seen above with his team, sporting their winners medals.

All in all a great afternoon of touch rugby played in near perfect surroundings and finished off witha BBQ on the lawns of the HAC and a cold beer or two!
