Southgate CORE

What is the Core?

The Southgate Centre of Rugby Education is a three way partnership between Southgate College, London Skolars Rugby League Club and Saracens Amateurs Rugby Union Club, which aims to support the development of the best young rugby talent in the North London area.

Who is it aimed at?

The Core programme is for students between 16 & 19 years old and combines education with rugby league and rugby union throughout the academic year, playing in the student leagues against quality opposition, with the opportunity to go on and achieve county, regional and national squad recognition.

What courses can students study?

Students can study any course at Southgate College, however in order to gain the full benefits of the Core program, it is recommended that they enroll on one of the sports courses. This will allow them to learn about nutrition, fitness, psychology, health and safety, sports coaching and many other areas related to the sports industry; as well as allowing them to attend all the training sessions, gain relevant industry work experience and also achieve their coaching badges in their preferred code of rugby. They will also be assisted with their progression opportunities, whether this is university, employment, work experience or playing opportunities in the UK or abroad.

Who coaches the Core team?

The Core programme is lead by an experienced team of qualified coaches, including London Skolars coaches, and supported by the RFL and RFU.
