London Skolars are pleased to announce that Michael Bishay has re-signed with the club ahead of the 2019 season. The 25-year-old, who joined the team in 2015, will now join up with his teammates for pre-season training.

Jermaine Coleman, London Skolars Head Coach, commented:

“We are really happy that Michael has signed again. He will bring some real quality and experience to the team. Towards the back end of the season, after his injury, he really started to find his stride again and performed to a high level. He’s got an excellent kicking and organization game and we’re really looking forward to having him back in the team.”

Bishay began his career with cross-city club London Broncos, where he made 19 appearances. He then spent time with Hemel Stags followed by a short stint at New River Stadium with Skolars. The hooker, who can also play scrum half, joined the team permanently in 2015 and has so far played in 54 matches for the club, scoring 20 tries. He said:

“I’m looking forward to another season with the boys. Hopefully we can have a much better year than last year and I believe we can if everyone is willing to put the hard work in. Jermaine can lead us in the right direction and the senior players can help him out with that.”

London Skolars returned to preseason training on Tuesday evening as preparations continue for the 2019 Betfred League 1 campaign. Head Coach Jermaine Coleman gathered his players at New River Stadium for a short gym session before taking them onto the pitch for some cardio and ball work.

Coleman, fresh from leading Jamaica to the 2021 Rugby League World Cup for the first time ever, was pleased with the effort his players showed in the session but insisted there’s a long way to go before their fitness reaches its peak.

He said: “It was good for everyone to get back in and see everyone again. We had a good laugh and the boys worked really hard in training but you can definitely tell they’ve enjoyed themselves in the offseason.”

Omari Caro, who played in Jamaica’s World Cup qualifiers in Jacksonville under Coleman, recently signed a new contract with the club ensuring he will remain at New River Stadium for the 2019 season. The winger was part of the group that took part in preseason training on Tuesday and he enjoyed being around his teammates again following the offseason. Caro commented:

“It was great to be back at training in and amongst the boys. There were lots of smiles on our faces at the beginning, but not so many at the end. We’re looking forward to the next six weeks and to improving as a team.”

London Skolars are delighted to announce that Billy Driver has re-signed for the club. The 28-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year deal at New River Stadium ahead of the 2019 Betfred League 1 season.

Jermaine Coleman, London Skolars Head Coach, said:

“We are really excited that Billy has signed back on with us. Billy is a really exciting player who has lots of speed and agility. He keeps his own and he’s really developed his understanding of the game and the role that he plays and what he brings to the team. I see him being a leader this year.”

Driver made 25 appearances for Skolars last season, scoring five tries. With experience of playing on the wing and at hooker, Driver’s versatility will be a big asset to Coleman’s squad in 2019. Driver commented:

“I’m delighted to have re-signed with London Skolars for the 2019 season. I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far and can’t wait for the new season to start. We’ve made some really good signings and there’s a buzz about the place heading into preseason.”

Everyone at the club is looking forward to the 2019 season and being able to look through the fixture list and get an idea for how the season will play out is really exciting.”
