Coach Core Apprenticeship Returns for Another Year

13th July 2017

London Skolars in partnership with the London Rugby League Foundation is seeking applicants for two new coaching apprenticeships.  The two apprenticeships will form part of a wider group of twenty apprentices employed by eight organisations as part of a programme called Coach Core, funded by The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

This is the second year of the Skolars & London Foundation’s involvement with Coach Core, with Aston Stephenson and Max Savage working towards graduation in August.  Aston has spent the year coaching with ourselves here at London Skolars as part of our Community Team, whilst Max has been working with the London Foundation in South London, and London Broncos Community Team in Ealing.

Community Development Manager Matt Cuss said ‘We are delighted that the Coach Core apprenticeship scheme is returning for a second year, and we look forward to working with Dan Steel and the London Rugby League Foundation to help recruit another fantastic candidate. Having Aston this year has been a massive boost for our Community Team, he has taken a lead delivering our Primary School Programme and has achieved some fantastic results, gaining some great feedback from schools, teachers and pupils. He has developed as an individual and has put himself in a fantastic position now to go on and gain full-time employment within the sporting sector, and we are really hoping that we can hang onto him.

Managing Director of the London Rugby League Foundation, Dan Steel, said “Coach Core is a fantastic programme for enthusiastic aspiring young coaches.  Max and Aston have had a huge positive impact working with the Foundation this year, and have really progressed as individuals and as coaches. I’m delighted we will be continuing to work with the Royal Foundation and our fellow consortium members for another year, and look forward to hearing from any young people interested in working within rugby league.”.

To be eligible for the programme applicants must:

– Not already be in full time education, employment or training.

– Be aged 16-24 years old on application.

– Be available to take part in a recruitment day on 14th & 15th August.

– Be available for full time paid employment of 30 hours a week for a full year from September 2017.
