A Team march into London Premier Grand Final.

This weekend the London Skolars A team travelled to Colchester to face off against Eastern Rhinos to decide who reached the London Premier Grand Final this Saturday.

Having finished the season just inside the play-off places the Skolars would have to do things the hard way and this started off with a long away journey to Colchester. A team coach Dave Roberts was able to name a strong side that included first team squad members, Dion Chapman, Judd and Michael Greenhalgh, Ollie Bloom and Danny Burke.

However all pre-match confidence was sharply knocked out of Skolars by the Rhinos as they raced into a 12 nil lead within the first 10 minutes, it was obvious that the journey had done Skolars no good and all credit to the Rhinos as they applied all the pressure and got their just rewards. The Skolars cause wasn’t helped with the controversial sending off of centre Judd Greenhalgh in the first 4 minutes. However the 12 men on the field drew on all the experience available to them and managed to drag themselves back into the game with some great defensive work in the middle of the park against a big and abrasive Eastern Rhinos pack.

Honours were even at halftime with the Skolars superior completion rate being a key factor in them scoring 3 unanswered tries to head to the changing rooms with the score at 12-12. The Skolars boys knew it would take a herculean effort to come away with a win and down to 12 men with 40 minutes to go few would have backed Skolars to reach the Grand Final next week. However through some sheer determination and grit Skolars stayed in touch with Eastern Rhinos as each side scored some impressive tries in what was a very topsy turvy second half. As the game entered the final few minutes it seemed like Eastern had the game wrapped up as they led the Skolars by 26 points to 25, however in what would have been Skolars final attack some great work by the forwards drove them up the field and eventually second rower Dion Chapman managed to force himself over the line to win the game and send the Skolars bench and coaches into raptures. Against all the odds they had secured the win and will now contest the London Premier Grand Final against a well fancied South West Chargers side on Saturday.
