Whilst Ade Adebisi may have missed out in Skolars’ end of season awards night, he was rewarded for his 17 try haul in the 2011 campaign when he was selected in the Championship 1 All Stars Team, which is selected by the coaches from the clubs in the Division. It’s the second time that a Skolars’ player has been awarded this accolade, Austen Aggrey having been selected in 2007.
But for an injury which saw Adebisi’s season cut short at the start of August, the 25 year old winger would almost certainly have passed Mark Cantoni’s club record of 20 tries in the season. He will receive his award at the Championship’s end of season dinner in Manchester on Tuesday night.
Also featuring in the team was former Skolar Dave Ellison, now with Oldham. This week also saw one more team confirmed in Co-operative Championship 1 next season, with Crusaders joining the division. This will mean that there are two Welsh clubs in the league, with Wrexham based competing alongside South Wales Scorpions.
Next Sunday see Workington Town and Keighley Cougars fight it out for promotion to the Championship, with former Skolar Jy-Mel Coleman likely to feature for the Cougars.
The full all-star side is:
1 Ian Mort (Swinton)
2 Ade Adebisi (Skolars)
3 Scott McAvoy (Whitehaven)
4 Chris Spurr (Doncaster)
5 Gavin Duffy (Keighley)
6 Darren Holt (Workington)
7 Ian Watson (Swinton)
8 Warren Thompson (Swinton)
9 Steve Parry (SW Scorpions)
10 Dave Ellison (Oldham)
11 Lee Doran (Whitehaven)
12 Craig Ashall (Hornets)
13 Phil Joseph (Swinton)
